How to maintain safe use of generic lybrel pills?

Generic lybrel, original lybrel are oral contraceptive pills taken by women to control birth and control pregnancy occurrence, they should not be used for other reasons unless a certified doctors instruct you for this.

Also you should know that lybrel are for birth control and not as a protection from sexually transmitted diseases. Some people think that taking contraceptive pills protect from venereal diseases, HIV or AIDS but this is not true. If you are unsure of your partner’s health then you may want to use an extra protection like condoms.

To guarantee safe use of the pills, you have to tell your doctor about the following:

Before starting lybrel administration:

If you are diabetic as lybrel can change you insulin sensitivity and this may cause changing the dose of your diabetes medication.

If you have allergy for any of the drug composing materials, you must tell your doctor as this may prevent you from taking such medication.

If you are already pregnant then it is not convenient for you to take such a medication.

If you are breast feeding and although the residual of the drug in breast milk are very small and of no value but it is advised not to take lybrel during breast feeding, after weaning the child you may take lybrel.

If you have any history of blood clotting or even if one of your family members have blood clotting, it is essential to tell your doctor about the case history. Oral contraceptive pills are known to increase blood clotting so if you already have the tendency for blood clotting then you should make sure of the drug’s safety through lab tests.

During the administration of lybrel or generic lybrel:

If you have any lumpy regions in your breast then you should report directly to your doctor.

If you have any tenderness in the breast or if you have any side effect that do not fade out with the time.

If you have bleeding or just spotting for more than seven days, you should report to your doctor.

If you are on any other medication you must discuss it with your doctor.

If you are diabetic patient then you should monitor your blood sugar level on regular intervals and keep an eye on the results.

If you are going to undergo a surgical operation or dental care, you should tell you doctor first.

If you are going to under go lap tests, you should tell your doctor as lybrel may enterfere with the lab results.

If you have a bleeding that did not stop after 7 days, do not stop the pills but you should report to your doctor.

If you experienced vomiting during the first four hours after the administration of the pill, you should deal with it as a missed dose.

In case of missed dose, take the missed dose then take the following dose in the usual drug.

Side effects of Lybrel

It is a general phenomenon to react to drugs; Lybrel (Levonorgestrel) is no exception to such reactions. Notwithstanding, it’s not every woman that reacts to Lybrel contraceptive oral pills. In fact, a research carried out to this effect shows that majority of the women withstood any side effect resulting from the use Lybrel. Only minor side effects that might require treatment by the person or her healthcare provider occurred.

The side effects obtainable from the use of Lybrel are common with that of other contraceptives, and they include:

The breast becomes soft and bigger

Bloating

A skin condition known as Acne , although , in the case of some women, contraceptive pills like Lybrel improves acne

The eyes experiences changes to the extent that putting on contact lenses become difficult.

Vomiting and queasiness

Headaches

The effects and treatment of lybrel overdose

The effect and treatment of Lybrel over dose, is not the same in individuals, it depends on a number of factors such as the Lybrel dosage, age and gender of the person who took the overdose. It will also depend on whether the Lybrel over dose was taken along side with other substances or medications.

Lybrel overdose as discussed earlier, does not have any serious or lingering harms. But any case of Lybrel overdose should be instantly reported to a healthcare provider for a proper medical attention where necessary.

There is no pre-determined way of treating Lybrel overdose effects. The known approach is to embark on supportive care, which involves treatment of the symptom that surfaced as a result of taking the overdose. Medical attentions should be sought for.

There are frequently asked questions concerning the use of lybrel contraceptive pills. Such questions include:

Is there any harm in using Lybrel contraceptive during breastfeeding?

The content of progestin and estrogen in Lybrel, brings it under the category of a combined oral contraceptive and they are highly effective in preventing pregnancy. Nevertheless, Lybrel and other oral contraceptives are not recommended for breastfeeding women. This is because; combined oral contraceptives have the capability of reducing the quality and production of breast milk.

Hormones in birth control pills like Lybrel can transmit in low quantities through breastfeeding. Although the amount of hormone transferred is insignificant to cause any problems to the baby, It is highly advised to desist from the intake of Lybrel while breast feeding, except a professional health care provider says otherwise.

However, using of Lybrel can be resumed as soon as the baby is weaned. But due consultation has to be made with a healthcare provider, as situations vary from one woman to another.

Disadvantages of using Lybrel oral contraceptive

One known disadvantage of using Lybrel is that it sometimes aids in blood coagulation,(clotting), althougfh no serious case has been recorded.

As a way of emphasis, consultation of a professional health care provider is highly needed in any form of medication, and therefore medication on Lybrel is not an exception.

Types of Contraceptives

They range from sub skin implantations to oral contraceptive pills. Since the appearance of the revolutionary method of oral contraception and scientists kept developing it to be much better and safer.

Trend in oral contraceptives

The latest trend in oral contraceptives is the micro contraceptive pills which depend on micro amounts of hormones supplied on regular basis to your body in order to block or hinder the ovules from being fertilized by sperm.

Generic lybrel products are not allowed in the untied states, the problem is not concerning safety or FDA approval but because the original lybrel possesses the patent rights which enables it to be the sole product in the market that contains the same formula and sold for the same indication.

The lybrel in general composed of 2 ingredients, levonogestrel and ethynil estradiol. Levonogestrel is synthetic progesterone which is also called the pregnancy hormone; each pill contains 90 micro gram of such material. The role of this hormone is to let your genital system to act as if it is pregnant. This means that as long as you are administering lybrel every day without serious mistakes in usage, then your ovaries will not produce ova, the uterus will change a little and the cervix will be plugged with thick viscous mucous. Doing this will maintain an effective and practical way of pregnancy prevention.

The only thing that you need to take care of is that even if lybrel can protect you from pregnancy but, it cannot protect you against venereal diseases, HIV or AIDS. The transmission of such diseases is not connected with the hormonal method of pregnancy prevention. If you are not sure of your partner disease history or you suspect that he/ she is infected with such diseases then you may want to use a condom to maintain protection.

Lybrel and all the oral hormonal contraceptive pills have the same side effects. Blood clotting is known to be the most important side effect although the percent of incidence is very small. Other side effects are headache, nausea, vomiting and weight gain. These side effects are easily bearable especially with the high level of protection presented by such medication. The intensity of side effects differs from one person to another.

To get the maximum benefit from administering lybrel you need to follow these easy steps:

Maintain taking the pills on constant basis

Set a distinct time to take the pill every day. It means that you should take a pill every 24 hours, try not to extend or shorten this period.

If you missed a single pill then do not panic, you can take it during the following 24 hours without changing the date of the following pill. In other words, if you usually take the pill at noon, then by midnight you remember that you did not take the pill. In this case you should take the pill instantly and the next pill stays at noon a usual.

In case of forgetting only one pill, you do not need to consult a doctor. All what you need is to maintain caution during the following 7 days when you have sexual intercourse.

How can you deal with lybrel?

Lybrel is a method of oral contraception or birth control. This means that you will take it for a long time on daily basis, until you decide that you need another baby. So, you need to know how to deal with such a medicine in order to avoid any possible side effects.

Lybrel Composition

Lybrel consists of two main ingredients, levonogestrel and ethynil estradiol, both of them are hormones. Each pill contains 90 micro grams of levonogestrel and 20 micro grams of ethynil estradiol. The tablets are yellow and supplied in 28 pill- packs.

When should I take lybrel?

You should start taking lybrel after 24 hours from the beginning of your menstrual cycle (period). This ensures the maximum protection and the minimal incidence of pregnancy.

Is there something that I should know about lybrel’s side effects?

First of all, lybrel is no different from other oral contraceptive pills when it comes down to side effects. For example, all oral contraceptives are contra indicated with smoking as it increases the incidence of heart attacks and heart complications. Smoking should be stopped or at least kept to the minimum level when you are on lybrel or generic lybrel products.

Also oral hormonal contraceptives are known to increase the blood clotting rates so you should consult your doctor if you or your family members had a history of serious blood clots.

Dizziness is one of the common side effects of lybrel and generic lybrel products; the level of dizziness is boosted when you take lybrel with alcohol or liquors. If you started taking lybrel recently then you should take care when you are driving or operating a machine till you know if you get dizzy when you take this medication or not.

Some people prefer to take the medicine in the early morning in order not to forget it but some times taking a medicine on empty stomach causes nausea and vomiting. If you get this bad feeling then start taking the pill after or during breakfast.

Some people have allergy from one or more ingredients of the drug, these people may develop skin reaction like rashes and hives when they are taking lybrel or any other oral contraceptive pills.

What should I do if I missed a dose or more?

Lybrel and generic lybrel products and all the other micro hormonal pills share one principal which is the regular administration of minute amounts of hormones to maintain prevention of pregnancy occurrence. Due to this principal and due to the other fact of the short half life of the hormones in this drug, you should take care not to miss any doses and maintain a usual time to take the pill every day.

If you missed a single dose then you should take it instantly even if you remembered this forgotten dose while you are taking the following one. After you take the missed dose then you should continue taking the following dose as usual (in the same time that you are used to take the pill).

What is Lybrel?

Lybrel is a new revolution in the field of oral contraceptive pills. Since it was released in 2007 and other companies began to release other generic lybrel products containing the same ingredients. Also we should mention that in the United States they forbid these generic lybrel products from entering the country because the original lybrel holds patent rights till the year 2018.

What is lybrel and how it works?

Lybrel is a combination non cyclic oral contraceptive, which means that this drug is not taken in cycles with rest period in between but you will take it 365 days a year. The good thing for women here is that during this whole year you will not have a period at all. The whole year long will be like a single extended period.

Lybrel and generic lybrel pills work in identical way, they prevent the ovaries from making new ova or what is known by ovulation by supplying the body with adequate amounts or estrogen and progesterone, enough to seize the ovulation process.

Every pill contains 90 micro grams of levonorgestrel and 20 micro grams of ethinyl estradiol. The former is synthetic progesterone and the latter is synthetic estrogen, both of these hormones are induced normally in case of pregnancy.

When Lybrel supply these hormones synthetically we will convince the body that there is pregnancy right now in the uterus and the ovaries do not need to produce more ova. This is a very simple explanation for what happened when you take lybrel and how do your body react.

Lybrel is approved from the FDA (the US food and drug administration) to be used for controlling birth and preventing pregnancy it may also be used to get rid of period for the whole year.

The only precaution that you have to take care of when you buy a whole year supply from lybrel is that you must preserve it in a dry light proof and cool place. Do not store your lybrel in the bathroom where the moisture could destruct the effectiveness of the pills.

Any pills that contain hormones should be stored away from the light; the pills should not be taken out of the strip or the container unless you are ready to take it directly.

Is it safe to take Lybrel pills for a year long without rest?

Competitor companies which sell other types of oral pills claim that long administration of the pill is not good and should be replaced with the cyclic pills where there is menstruation occurs every month. For those we say, any type of pills is considered a modification in the menstrual cycle of the women, whether these pills are cyclic or non – cyclic the menstruation is modified into none changing 28 day cycles. The clinical studies explained that women accepted the pills with a monthly period just to make sure that they are not pregnant but now with women working in physically demanding jobs and fast paced life, the need for eliminating the period is larger.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of lybrel and generic lybrel pills?

There is a great debate about the benefits and side effects of the new revolutionary oral contraceptive pills called lybrel. Lybrel and generic lybrel producers stating that there are huge benefits from administrating the drug in such way but other competitors are claiming that administrating the drug for a period of one year without monthly rest or without allowing the monthly period to occur may affect the body status.

Let us browse through the advantages and disadvantages of lybrel together:

The advantages of lybrel or generic lybrel

First we should declare that there is no medical benefit of having a menstrual week while you are on pills because it is, in fact, not a menstrual cycle but it is a withdrawal bleeding occurs because on day 21 we stopped administrating hormones so, after another 7 days withdrawal bleeding occurs as a sign of hormone withdrawal.

According to this the FDA approved drug, lybrel, eliminated this annoying week for the whole year long and with out any clinical risks.

Field researches done by California University, declared that a reasonable percent of women would prefer not to have menstrual cycle through out the year, not to mention those who do not want to have menstrual cycle at all.

You do not need to purchase feminine hygiene and adjuvant drugs to pass this annoying week of menstruation. You will be saving a lot of money through out the year.

Administrating hormones with equal amounts every day for the whole year helps in maintaining a constant level of hormones in your body instead of the wave that occur with the ordinary pill.

The lybrel contains a micro hormonal dose so the whole amount of hormones administered in the whole year equals to those administered by other cyclic pills which are containing larger amounts of hormones.

The disadvantages and draw backs

While there is a reasonable percent who prefer not to have menstrual cycle there is another percent who prefer to have their monthly period as a sign of being still capable of being pregnant and in the same time assure that they are not pregnant right now. Also some women consider the monthly period as an undetached part of their personalities.

Some users of non cyclic pills detected spotting or escaped bleeding with the regular administration of the pills.

Although long administration of pregnancy hormones had not been proved to be related to breast cancer but some physicians declared that they are concerned of the very long non stop administration of a certain drug.

Also lybrel has the common side effects of other oral contraceptive pills, nausea and vomiting, heart diseases, allergy and headache. You can over come the nausea by taking the pill with food. If vomiting or diarrhea occurred during the first 4 hours of administration then you must retake the pill again and keep the following dose in its original time.

Generally heart diseases increase in case of women who smoke and are on contraceptive pills. So, if you are on contraceptive pills then you should quit smoking or at least keep it to the minimum level to avoid the risks of heart diseases.

Generic Lybrel – Levonorgestrel

Lybrel is one of the medically prescribed contraceptives. Lybrel is classified under combined hormonal contraceptives; this is because it’s content of estrogen and progestin (female sexual hormones). It is used for the single purpose of birth control and it is administered orally and with no inactive pills.

Lybrel stands out among other contraceptives, as the foremost and lone birth control pill given the approval to be taken incessantly, with no hormone-free periods. The outcome is that women do not experience a constant monthly period while taking lybrel. However, irregular minor bleeding and blood traces may be experienced occasionally by some women.

Legal status of Lybrel manufacturing/sales

A patent has placed a strong protection on Lybrel, thereby making Generic lybrel non-available for sales in the United States.

The expiration date for the first patent of lybrel is set for 2018, September precisely. It is after this time that a Generic version of Lybrel could be made accessible. This stipulated expiration period of the first patent on Generic version of Lybrel is said to be the earliest. On the other hand, certain conditions that could lengthen the exclusivity time further than 2018 may arise. Such conditions could be frictions leading to lawsuits between drug manufacturers or new patents for the use of specific Lybrel.

It is envisaged that immediately the patent is lifted from Lybrel, many companies will commence the production of Generic Lybrel products.

Are there other purposes of Lybrel besides being a contraceptive?

As mentioned earlier, Lybrel’s sole purpose is to prevent pregnancy. It does this by hindering the eggs in the ovaries from maturing and eventually being released (a biological process called ovulation).

The prevention of pregnancy by Lybrel, is done in two other negligible ways apart from inhibiting ovulation. Foremost, Lybrel changes the mucus of the cervix, since the cervix (lower part of the uterus) is connected to the vagina; it becomes an upheaval task for the sperm to gain entrance to the uterus. Thus, the uterus becomes less receptive to an embryo.

Clinical findings on Lybrel

Painstaking clinical trial studies have been carried out on Lybrel. The studies focused more on the side effects of Lybrel. Just the same studies are carried out for most medications, the study was done by comparing a group of people that are taking Lybre with another group that are not taking the pills but took placebo that does not contain active ingredients. However, placebo is not to be used in clinical trials for contraceptives, otherwise, unintentional pregnancy will occur

The monthly period of women is not essential while taking Lybrel. Infact, menstrual experience in the course of taking Lybrel is termed to be artificial and therefore such period is not regarded as period at all. The period that takes place while taking Lybrel and other birth control pills, are induced by the withdrawal of the hormones from the pills, resulting to bleeding. Periodical bleeding is normal while taking Lybre, but it’s occurrence is irregular.

Please pay attention to this!

Lybrel does not in any way serve as or contain any HIV/STDs (sexually transmitted dieses) prevention element as misinterpreted by some people. Therefore it is highly advised that condom be used during sexual intercourse (while taking Lybrel), especially when the HIV status of partner is not certain.

General Guidelines for the Dosage and Use of Generic Lybrel (levonorgestrel/ethinyl)

Drugs are to be strictly taken by the direction, prescription and appropriate consultation with a health care provider or doctor as the case may be; therefore, the use of Generic Lybre contraceptive pills is no exception.

Things that your healthcare Provider must know

The need for discussing with your health care provider before embarking in any medication cannot be over emphasized. Issues of deliberation with your healthcare provider before taking Lybrel include:

• Any side effect of using contraceptive (s) in the time past, such as coloring of the white eyes or the skin.
• previous or present record of cancer
• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
• Any case of stroke or heart attach
• Heart valves problems
• Pain on the chest region
• Any form of liver diseases like liver tumors, hepatitis
• Vaginal bleeding outside menstrual flow

Information pertaining to a scheduled surgery (if any), cigarette smoking, plans to get pregnant and breastfeeding should also be supplied to your healthcare provider. Be ready to divulge information also, pertaining to other medications and herbal treatments.

Standard Lybrel Dosage

At the commencement the commencement of Lybrel pack, one (1) tablet is to be taken everyday with a fixed time strictly observed. In other words, the time for each day should not vary. Each pack of Lybre contains 28 tablets and should last 28 twenty eight days.

Proceed to the next pack after the first pack has been exhausted, all tablets in the pack contain the active hormones. There is no break in the hormones and a consistent menstrual flow will not occur, therefore Lybrel pills do not come with inactive tablets

When is the best time to start using Lybrel?

After you have been declared fit for the medication by your healthcare provider, the best time to start taking Lybrel is the first day of your period (for new users). This has to be within 24 hours subsequent to bleeding. You are guaranteed of protection from pregnancy from the time you commenced the pack, provided there is no serious default in the process. You have no need for any form of backup contraception.

Directives on missed pills

There is utmost need to avoid defaulting in the use of Lybrel contraceptive pills. Whether or not you don’t have sexual intercourse often, the pills must be taken at the fixed time every day. The chances of occurrence of pregnancy are high when pills are skipped.

Now, the number of pills you missed will determine will determine the actions you have to take. Directives on missed pills include:

When you remember you’ve missed a pill, take the missed pill as soon as possible, even if the time will coincide with the time of taking the next pill. In essence, it doesn’t really matter if it tantamount to talking two pills at a time. In addition, a back up contraceptive has to be used for seven (7) days subsequent to restarting the pills peradventure you engage in sexually intercourse within seven days of restarting the pills. Condom is ideal to be used as a backup contraceptive.

If two (2) pills are missed in a row, let two pills be taken on the day it came to your mind and thereafter, recede to your to your normal schedule. Remember also to use a back up contraceptive, if you must have a sexual intercourse, in the seven days of your pills restart.

An extreme case arises, when more than three (3) pills in a row are skipped or missed. In this case, the defaulter is advised to contact a healthcare provider for advice, but should continue to take one (1) pill daily.

Ethinyl Estradiol and Thromboembolisms

There are many side effects and medical warnings associated with the use of ethinyl estradiol and other contraceptives in women. One such side effect that has been mentioned is the increased risk of thromboembolisms. Ethinyl estradiol is a major component in many contraceptives and it is used in various forms. Ethinyl estradiol may be ingested in a pill form or used as a patch or a vaginal insert. Ethinyl estradiol releases the hormone estrogen into the system. It can also be used in hormone replacement therapy in women who have passed menopause. Although it is very effective as a contraceptive and hormone replacement agent, the risks associated with ethinyl estradiol need to be considered before it is used.

Thromboembolisms

Thromboembolisms are a combination of two separate conditions that may have deadly consequences when taken together. The two conditions are deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms. These conditions have been linked to contraceptives including ethinyl estradiol.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis is related to the clotting of blood in the deep veins. Deep vein thrombosis occurs when blood clots and forms a blockage in deep veins such as the femoral or radial veins. These veins are called deep veins because they are located deep in the body as opposed to superficial veins which are located closer to the skin. The clot formed in deep vein thrombosis is called a thrombus and it will grow to a point where it begins to obstruct the blood flow in the vein. This blockage of the veins leads to decreased oxygenated blood flow to organs and tissue on one side of the blockage, as well as harmful build-ups of toxins.

Pulmonary Embolisms

The other condition encompassed by the term ‘thromboembolism’ is the pulmonary embolism. A pulmonary embolism is formed when a thrombus formed from thrombosis becomes dislodged and travels around the body through the veins. The thrombus may then become lodged in one of the arteries that supplies blood to the lungs, thereby cutting off the blood flow. Pulmonary embolisms can be a very serious condition and it may even lead to sudden death.

Link to Estrogen and Oral Contraceptives

Studies have been conducted that show a causal connection between oral contraceptives and the occurrence of thromboembolisms. The increased estrogen levels created by oral contraceptives have been though to contribute to the formation of the thrombus and the creation of the pulmonary embolism. The relationship of ethinyl estradiol to other oral contraceptives has shown that it too may result in increased risk of thromboembolisms. The differences between ethinyl estradiol and other contraceptives, however, has given rise to the suspicion that ethinyl estradiol may even pose a greater risk of thromboembolisms than other contraceptives. The risk of women developing thrombosis increases with age, and therefore older women who may be using ethinyl estradiol for hormone replacement may be at greater risk. However, studies have shown that women who use ethinyl estradiol as opposed to other oral contraceptives do not have an increased risk of developing thromboembolisms.

Regardless, ethinyl estradiol must still be taken as prescribed. Failure to do so may cause reduced effectiveness or increased risk of experiencing harmful side effects.

Ethinyl Estradiol and cardiovascular problems

Ethinyl Estradiol is an effective birth control hormone that is most commonly used in combination with other female hormones to make a great pill, patch, or vaginal ring that can effectively prevent pregnancy. There are some side effects associated with Ethinyl Estradiol but it is said that it may even decrease the risk of cardiovascular problems.

Coronary heart disease

Coronary heart disease is the failure of coronary circulation to supply the right circulation to the cardiac muscles and the surrounding tissues.

Half of deaths related to coronary heart disease are in women, and claim the lives of over 250,000 women per year in the United States. Coronary heart disease kills more women that cancer and other causes combined. Most of these deaths occur in women over the age of 75, 95% of coronary heart disease related deaths occur in post menopausal women.

Recent studies have shown that decreased levels of estrogen are associated with enhanced arterial vasoconstriction and that estrogen therapy can reverse this. Hormone therapy has been used for years on women that have reached menopause naturally or surgically to relieve menopausal symptoms.

Hormone therapy with Ethinyl Estradiol

Hormone therapy with Ethinyl Estradiol can reduce cardiac death and myocardial infarction. There have been only a small amount of studies conducted to show if this is true. One test was done on a group of women over a 10 year period of time and showed that they couldn’t reduce the mortality rate but less cardiac deaths and cancers occurred and a lower occurrence of myocardial infarction.

A test was even done on men with established coronary heart disease by giving them a high dose of hormones, this increased their problems but doctors attribute this to increased thrombosis which was attributed to the high levels of estrogen.

Another study done showed that only about 30-50% of the observed people saw a reduction in coronary artery disease associated with hormone therapy in post menopausal women and showed that there were improvements in blood pressure, low density lipoprotein, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, and blood sugar.

Ethinyl Estradiol has not been prescribed to patients with coronary heart disease to treat it; instead it is only prescribed for patients wanting to prevent pregnancy. There are some side effects associated with Ethinyl Estradiol and it is important to discuss them with your doctor before you start taking the hormone. It is also important to tell your doctor about all of the medications you are taking including over the counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Risks of hormone therapy with Ethinyl Estradiol

The studies done on hormone therapy with Ethinyl Estradiol showed that there were increases in triglyceride levels in the women it was performed on.

Ethinyl Estradiol is only being prescribed for women wanting to prevent pregnancy and for those needing to regulate their periods, not for coronary heart problems. Currently there are many studies being conducted to see the effects on coronary heart problems by using Ethinyl Estradiol and other female hormones.
